John Ibbotson Fund

The fund was set up in 2005 in memory of John Ibbotson with the aim of helping talented young cyclists from the south of England to follow their dreams and race in Europe.

John, or Ibbo to all who knew him, died of arythmagenic right ventricular dysplasia in August 2005, he was just 27. Website

Good Friday Meeting - Website
The famous Good Friday Meetings took shape in January 1903. A small group of enthusiasts persuaded their colleagues of the Southern Counties Cycling Union that the Union should promote a meeting at Herne Hill on the coming Good Friday.

The event attracts quality riders and the action on banked track is enjoyed by a noisy, excited crowd that almost pull the riders along when they draw breath.

The Herne Hill Velodrome - Website
The London Velodrome Herne Hill has been the venue for track racing since the 1880's and hosts the 100 year old Good Friday Track Meeting as well as a twice weekly track league.

South East Region is working with the London Mayors office to redevelop Herne Hill to include new facilities.

London Cyclo-Cross League - Website
The London Cyclo-Cross League looks after Cyclo-Cross in the South East. The 13 round London League is held across the Region, with events in London, along the South Coast and in Kent.

The League is popular and welcomes new riders to take part. Cyclo-Cross is a great place to take up cycle sport and events are open to MTB's.

Surrey Cycle Racing League (SCRL) - Website
The Surrey Cycle Racing League is more than a race series, it's almost a way of life. The League is the biggest in the UK and is seen by many as a model for road racing.

The Surrey League holds road and circuit races in Surrey, Sussex, the Isle of Wight and London. All abilities are catered for including women and youths.

South East Road Race League (SERRL) Website
The SERRL is based in Kent and run in a similar fashion to the Surrey Cycle Racing League. The SERRL League has a full programme of racing based in Kent with events held at the Redbridge Cycle Circuit and at Fowlemead Country Park.

South East Road Race League

Sussex Cycle Racing League (SCRL) - Website
Sussex Cycle Racing League will be promoting another season of thrilling racing on the 580-metre outdoor track at Preston Park, Brighton every Wednesday evening from 23 April to 13 August 2008.

Around 20 events are run each meeting with the usual mixture of sprints, scratch races, devils, keirins, handicaps, points races, etc.

Southern XC MTB Series (SAMS) - Website
The Southern Cross Country series formerly known as SAMS is not held under BC sanction but the promoting clubs are part of the fabric of the cycling community of the Region and British Cycling. The series is held around London, the South of England and the South East.

It offers excellent off road venues that will test the best, but also give the novice a chance.

Although not held under BC sanction you will find plenty of BC members and South East Region clubs racing at this very popular grass roots series held in Surrey.
